Mount Evans and Garden of the Gods

Mount Evans, with its height of 4,350 meters above sea level, is the highest point in the Chicago Peaks, Colorado. Its big advantage is that it is possible to get to the top by car. And another advantage is that you can use your Annual Pass 🙂

The road to the top of the mountain is very narrow and winding. There are very steep slopes around here and there are no barriers, so the journey by car is an adrenaline experience 🙂 Moreover, if you are not lucky for the perfect weather, you will most likely pass through the clouds, which again adds to adrenaline.

On the way to the summit, we run around Echo Lake and Summit Lake. Even though it was half of July, at the top of the mountain was only 7 °C, so you need to prepare warm clothes if you want to stay outdoors.

Royal Gorge Bridge at Canon City is open only on Saturdays and Sundays.

Our next goal was the Garden of the Gods, still in the state of Colorado near Colorado Springs. When we arrived, there were black clouds in the sky. We parked and went to see the garden that contained red rocks. We walked a few paths between the rocks and, due to the fast-paced storm, we headed back to the car. The rain was extremely strong, the raindrops on the car window were about five centimeters in diameter.

We continued to Canon City, where was a bridge over the canyon called Royal Gorge Bridge. The bridge hovers at an altitude of 291 meters on the Arkansas River, which flows through the canyon. This bridge is the highest bridge in the US. Unfortunately, we found that the bridge is currently closed, but we still went to see it. According to the information, the bridge was only open on Saturdays and Sundays, so you need to be careful when planning your trip.

Then we headed back to Colorado Springs, where we booked our Econo Lodge North Academy.
